Flint Country: A Stone Journey

Published in July 2025 by Saraband, my most recent book is both a natural and cultural history of the stone as well as a celebration of the landscapes in which it is found. Largely but not exclusively East Anglia-based, it takes a sideways look at flint from a number of perspectives – geological, archaeological, architectural, historical, philosophical and artistic.

Westering

This was published by Saraband in 2021. Beginning in Great Yarmouth in Norfolk and meandering to Aberystwyth on the coast of Wales, Westering is a coast-to-coast journey on foot that connects landscape, place and memory to evoke a narrative unravelling the deep topography.

15 Short Walks Norfolk: Broads & Coast

This is my latest walking guide for Cicerone. It features a selection of reasonably short walking routes in or close to coastal Norfolk and is aimed at less experienced walkers.

Norfolk (Slow Travel) 3rd edition

This is the most recent edition of my Norfolk guide for Bradt.
As the publisher’s website asserts: ‘Now in its 3rd edition, this updated Bradt Norfolk Guidebook, part of Bradt’s award-winning ‘Slow travel’ series of guides to UK regions, turns the spotlight on this county of contrasts, from the fine city of Norwich to the watery wilderness of the Broads and the sweeping beaches of the superlative north coast.’
